All of my old Dell laptops had separate ports for microphone and headset speakers. My new Dell has one port for both. After hours trying to find compatible headsets on Dell's site and 3 "Big Box" stores, I finally found Headset Buddy. It worked great with my existing headset / mic set, plus also plugs into my IPhone! The clarity is awesome, and the price can't be beat. A great product.

I have a Plantronics headset that has two plugs, one for headphones and one for microphone. My Lenovo thinkpad W510 has a jack that supports headphones with microphone. This adapter plugs into that fancy jack, and my headphone plugs connect to the adapter, resulting in a usable headset without having to use the USB adapter that came with the headset, that lacks linux drivers. The only improvement that I can think of is a 90-degree plug, so the wire isn't in the way of my mouse on the right side of the computer.
